- orangutans, monkeys and mosques... oh my! We saw some amazing sights, met some interesting people (and animals!) and
enjoyed just putting our feet up by the pool.
Borneo is the third largest island in the world and is made up of three countries; Malaysia, Brunei and Indonesia. It is also home
to one of the oldest rainforests. We began our trip in Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia. There are several orangutan sanctuaries in
Borneo which provide special protection and rehabilitation for these endangered animals. The Malaysian government
established wildlife protection laws which make it illegal to capture, keep or kill an orangutan. We were incredibly excited to see
these amazing animals up close and personal. We also had an opportunity to float down the Klias River in search of the elusive
Proboscis monkey. Since they can only be found on this island, it was a treat to spot them high above us in the trees!
